Welcome to the home of the Old Ignatian Association

The Old Ignatian Association was established to serve the interests of former pupils of St. Ignatius College by providing social, spiritual and sporting facilities. The Association allows past students to maintain relationships with both the college and with other alumni.

History

The Old Ignatian Association has been in existence for many years. However, its profile changed dramatically in the early 1960’s after a dedicated group oversaw the acquisition of a sports ground in Woodford. A pavilion was built and the facilities included three football and three ruby pitches as well as a cricket square. With a new headquarters the Association flourished. Unfortunately, in the early 1970’s the ground was compulsorily purchased to make way for the M11 making the Association homeless! For a few years in the late 1970’s we used Woodcroft, a small sports ground in Winchmore Hill, but that proved to be unsuitable and again we were homeless.

In the years since we left Woodford it has been difficult for the Association to offer any focus for its activities other than through sport. For a long time, to their credit, the football, rugby and cricket clubs managed to survive without a permanent base and continued to flourish in difficult circumstances.

In 1999 the Association purchased the former Belling sports ground in Turkey Street, Enfield with the intention of building a new headquarters for the Association in the Enfield area. Our new home, The Loyola Ground, was completed in April 2008 and consists of a bar, a large function area, a kitchen and a football pitch with changing and showering facilities.

Our aim is to re-establish the social centre that the old Woodford site provided. We are anxious that the building will not just be a sports pavilion, but also cater for the requirements of Old Ignatians who are not necessarily sports minded. We are striving to encourage Old Ignatians back to the Association as well as attracting current pupils. The School have already made use of our facilities on numerous occasions for both sporting and social events. With our links and close proximity to the school we hope that the Association is set to flourish again.

With this in mind we have a devised a packed social calendar designed to welcome members old and new to our facility.
